Pavilion Hotel Reopens in Avalon After Thoughtful Renovation
If you’ve been looking for an excuse to plan a Catalina Island escape, this might be it. The Pavilion Hotel in Avalon has officially reopened after a thoughtful renovation, bringing fresh energy to one of the island’s most iconic waterfront stays.
Just 22 miles off the Southern California coast, Catalina has long been our go-to for a quick reset. And now, one of its most beloved social hubs is stepping into a new era while holding onto the charm that made it special in the first place.

A Mid-Century Classic, Refreshed
Originally built in 1958, Pavilion Hotel has always been part of Avalon’s cultural fabric. The recent renovation updates guest rooms and public spaces while honoring the property’s mid-century roots and laid-back coastal feel.
Expect classic silhouettes, botanical accents, and misty ocean-inspired hues throughout the design. Guest rooms are designed to welcome those signature Avalon breezes, and select deluxe accommodations feature French doors and private patios overlooking the hotel’s lush central courtyard.
Down in the lobby, wine dispensers make it easy to sample a curated selection of pours before heading out to dinner or settling into the courtyard for the evening.
The Courtyard is Still the Heart of it All
If you’ve stayed here before, you know the open-air courtyard is the soul of Pavilion Hotel. Mornings move at an easy pace on chaise lounges, while evenings gather around the fire pit during the hotel’s signature Social Hour.
Just across from the lobby, The Lanai serves daily continental breakfast in a tropical garden setting that feels quintessentially Catalina.
It’s the kind of place where you can fully lean into island time.

A Catalina Classic, Reimagined
The waterfront site itself has played a role in Avalon’s story for more than a century, originally home to the famed Dance Pavilion in the late 1800s. That social legacy still shapes the experience today, blending history with a refreshed approach to island hospitality.
As part of Catalina Island Company’s portfolio – alongside Mt Ada, Hotel Atwater, and Banning House Lodge & Villas – Pavilion Hotel offers easy access to dining, tours, ocean adventures, and beachside lounging at Descanso Beach Club.
Rates start at $350 per night, and reservations are now open. If a spring or summer island getaway has been on your mind, this is a pretty compelling reason to book the ferry.
See you there!
We’re already picturing sunset wine in the courtyard and slow mornings by the water. Catalina weekend, anyone?
