Cygnet Theatre Unveils its 21st Season at The Joan, a Stunning New Home in Liberty Station

A bold new chapter begins as Cygnet Theatre’s 21st Season launches in a state-of-the-art performance space at The Joan and Irwin Jacobs Performing Arts Center (The Joan) in Arts District Liberty Station.

Kicking off on September 10, 2025, this milestone season will showcase four musicals and two plays, bringing an exciting mix of award-winning productions, beloved classics, and thought-provoking dramas to Cygnet’s stunning new home.

This season’s lineup features a spectacular mix of theatre favorites, including:

  • Follies – Stephen Sondheim’s legendary musical, directed by Sean Murray
  • A Christmas Carol – Cygnet’s beloved holiday tradition
  • Cygnet’s A Magical Holiday: Christmas at The Joan – A brand-new seasonal celebration
  • Somewhere Over the Border – A heartfelt musical by Brian Quijada
  • The SpongeBob Musical – A vibrant, high-energy adventure for all ages
  • Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike – A hilarious, Tony Award-winning comedy
  • The Lehman Trilogy – A gripping, multi-generational drama

A New Era at The Joan

This season marks the grand opening of The Joan, a world-class venue designed to elevate San Diego’s theatre experience. In partnership with the NTC Foundation, Cygnet has transformed the historic Naval Building 178 into a cutting-edge cultural destination while preserving its rich architectural heritage.
