Annual Opening Weekend Block Party honors all things East Village

This event honors all things East Village including local small businesses, live music and entertainment, tasty bites, beer and cocktails, local retail vendors, photo opportunities,  a variety of fun family-friendly activities, and of course a celebration of East Village’s very own San Diego Padres. Open to all ages, the free celebration is the perfect way to celebrate community and our beloved team.

“Baseball is back and we could not be more excited to kick off festivities as a community in East Village,” said Terry McCleary, President of East Village Association. “The Opening Weekend Block Party is one of East Village’s longest running and most celebrated events. In addition to coming together to celebrate the return of baseball, this event symbolizes so much more for our community.”

“It’s one of the best ways we can highlight everything our neighborhood has to offer as we open our arms and welcome everyone in, and we are so excited to be able to celebrate with everyone again this year.”

“San Diego loves the Padres and we are so excited to see what the baseball season brings to the San Diego community ” said Ethan Olsen, Assistant District Manager of the East Village Association. “There is so much love for East Village and everyone continues to come out and support the grand initiatives and improvements we have for the neighborhood.

“As we continue to work on parking programs, pedestrian lighting and the overall identity of the area, it’s events like these that help in the funding of those enhancements and also keep us eager to do better for our community.”

Back in full swing

East Village Opening Weekend Block Party

Starting in 2010 with a two year hiatus in 2020 and 2021, the East Village Opening Weekend block party has drawn thousands of San Diegans across the county. Now back in full swing, the event will feature fun for the entire family including a variety of activation, vendors and one vignette of entertainment, located at the intersection of 9th and J Street, featuring back-to-back performers and entertainers.

This year’s lineup will feature a variety of other local musicians, bands and performers. During the performances, professional dancers from Brickhouse Dance Productions will animate the audience and hype up the crowds.
