Prost! La Mesa’s Oktoberfest is Back for 3 Days of Bier, Brats, and Good Times
Every fall, the streets of La Mesa Village transform into something that feels genuinely transported from Bavaria – and if you’ve never made it out, this is the year to change that. La Mesa Oktoberfest has been doing this for 53 years, and the tradition only keeps getting better.
The best part? It’s completely free to attend.

What’s Going Down in Downtown La Mesa
Spread across three biergartens and multiple stages, the festival takes over La Mesa Boulevard for a full weekend of live music, German food, craft beer, games, and the kind of festive energy that’s hard to find anywhere else in San Diego County.
Here’s what you’re walking into:
- The Hofbräuhaus Biergarten anchors the main stage with live entertainment and crowd games.
- The Oktoberfest Craft Bier and Spirits Garten brings a more lounge-y vibe with a DJ and free-play games.
- The Palm Avenue Pub & Grub keeps things rolling with oompah bands, karaoke, and a DJ dance party – plus football on the screens if you need your Saturday fix.

The Food and Drink Situation
Over 40 food vendors means you’re not going hungry – bratwurst, schnitzel, pretzels, roasted meats, German pastries, and plenty of local favorites all have a seat at the table. The beer selection leans into proper German and craft options, served the way they’re meant to be: in a stein, surrounded by people having a good time.

Go VIP (Worth It)
The basic biergarten entry is $8 at the door (under 21 is free), but the Hofbräuhaus Biergarten VIP packages take the experience up a level.
Options start at $15 and go up to $49, with perks ranging from front-of-line access and dedicated restrooms to a commemorative stein, two 16oz biers, and a German alpine hat or flower crown.
There are under-21 VIP options too, with root beer and waters swapped in. VIP sells out every year, so don’t wait on it.
Bring the Whole Crew
La Mesa Oktoberfest is legitimately all-ages in the best way. The German Kinder Karneval keeps the younger set busy while everyone else handles their bier situation, and the whole event has a neighborhood block party feel that works for families, friend groups, and anyone who just wants to spend a fall weekend outside enjoying good food and live music.
If you have lederhosen or a dirndl gathering dust, this is absolutely the occasion.
See you there!
One of San Diego’s best fall traditions is back, and three days of free German festivities in the heart of La Mesa are too good to pass up.
