The San Diego French Film Festival Celebrates Love Through Cinema

The San Diego French Film Festival is back for its fifth edition, bringing the best of French and francophone cinema to THE LOT La Jolla.

This year’s theme, “Love in All Its Forms,” explores the many facets of human connection—from friendship and passion to solidarity and self-discovery—through an exceptional lineup of films and artistic exhibitions.

San Diego French Film Festival

A Celebration of Connection Through Film

Presented by Alliance Française San Diego, the festival is a dynamic tribute to francophone cultures, inviting us to immerse ourselves in cinematic storytelling that highlights themes of identity, social change, and emotional depth.

Each film is carefully curated to inspire reflection and spark conversation, showcasing the profound ways love shapes our lives.

Opening Night & Gala Reception

The festival kicks off with a red-carpet Opening Gala, featuring “En Fanfare” (The Marching Band)—a touching, humorous drama that captivated audiences at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and earned seven César Award nominations, including Best Film and Best Actor.

This moving film follows Thibaut, a renowned orchestra conductor, whose world is turned upside down after a leukemia diagnosis leads to a shocking discovery—he was adopted. Now, at 37, he finds out he has a biological brother he never knew, Jimmy, a cafeteria cook with a passion for his local marching band. Despite their different upbringings, music becomes the bridge that unites them.

Beyond the Screen – Art Exhibitions

The festival extends beyond film with two captivating art exhibitions:

  • “Coeur D’Afghane, Amour À La Française” – A solo exhibition by Manaz Raiszadeh, running from April to June at Alliance Française San Diego, exploring love, migration, and identity through a Franco-Afghan perspective.
  • Student Art Showcase – Featuring works by young artists from the Alliance Française, celebrating love and human connection through visual storytelling.
