Honor Women’s History Month With a Free Screening of The Hello Girls
In honor of Women’s History Month, local nonprofit Foundation for Women Warriors is hosting a free virtual screening of The Hello Girls – a powerful documentary that shines a light on a group of women whose service shaped history.
This online event offers an opportunity to learn about America’s first female soldiers and the fight for recognition that followed their wartime contributions.

The Story of America’s First Female Soldiers
The Hello Girls features rare 100-year-old film footage from the National Archives along with never-before-seen photos from family archives, bringing new depth to a story many of us have never heard.
In 1918, the U.S. Army Signal Corps sent 223 women to France to serve as telephone operators during World War I. These women swore Army oaths, wore uniforms, held rank, and were subject to military justice.
Their work was critical – by the end of the war, they had connected more than 26 million calls, helping coordinate military operations overseas.
General John J. Pershing recognized their contributions. Yet when they returned home, the U.S. government told them they had never officially been soldiers.
The documentary explores their service, the injustice they faced, and the long fight for acknowledgment that followed. It is a story of courage, resilience, and advocacy that still resonates today.

Hosted by Foundation for Women Warriors
Foundation for Women Warriors has long supported women veterans and their families across Southern California, offering programs that empower and uplift those who have served.
Hosting this screening during Women’s History Month reflects their continued commitment to honoring women’s contributions – both past and present.
For anyone interested in military history, women’s rights, or untold American stories, this screening offers a meaningful way to engage and reflect from home.
