USA Pickleball National Championships Take Over Barnes Tennis Center
USA Pickleball is bringing its National Championships to Barnes Tennis Center for nine days of elite competition, and if you’ve been watching pickleball’s meteoric rise over the past few years, this is where you see it at the highest level.
Hundreds of elite athletes from across the country are competing, with play happening every single day. Pro games and the adaptive wheelchair division showcase the sport’s top talent and inclusivity at the national stage.

Community Impact Before Competition
Before the tournament officially starts, USA Pickleball Serves is unveiling a new Community Court at Barnes Tennis Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring remarks from USA Pickleball, Barnes Tennis Center, and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego.
That’s followed by a Learn-to-Play Pickleball Clinic for 20-30 local youth from the Boys & Girls Clubs, making them the first to use the new courts.
USA Pickleball is also donating pickleball equipment and educational resources to the Boys & Girls Clubs to keep youth participation growing beyond this single event. It’s the kind of investment that extends the tournament’s impact past the competition itself.
Nine Days of Elite Competition
The tournament structure gives you multiple entry points depending on what level you want to watch. Competitive play runs daily throughout the event, so you can drop in any day and catch matches.
The pro division brings the intensity up several notches, while the adaptive wheelchair division showcases athletes competing at the highest level in a format that’s often overlooked at major sporting events.
Barnes Tennis Center transforms into pickleball’s main stage for over a week, with courts active from morning through evening. The scale of it – nine consecutive days with hundreds of athletes – makes it one of the bigger sporting events happening in San Diego this month.

Why This Matters for San Diego
Hosting the USA Pickleball National Championships puts San Diego on the map for a sport that’s grown faster than almost any other in recent years. The economic impact of hundreds of athletes plus their families and supporters staying in the area for over a week is substantial.
But beyond economics, it positions Barnes Tennis Center as a legitimate venue for national-level pickleball competition, which could mean more events coming here in the future.
The community court unveiling and youth clinic show that USA Pickleball is thinking beyond just the tournament itself. Building infrastructure and introducing the sport to local kids creates a pipeline for future players while making pickleball more accessible to communities that might not otherwise have exposure to it.
