World’s Best Junior Surfers Compete at WSL World Junior Championships in Oceanside
From Tuesday, January 9 to Sunday, January 14, 2024, Oceanside will host the WSL World Junior Championships for the first time, adding to the already impressive roster of renowned surf competitions hosted in town.
WSL World Junior Championships will bring the best junior (under age 20) surfers on the planet to the Oceanside Pier to face off for the titles of men’s and women’s WSL Junior Champions. Oceanside locals, like soon-to-be-Olympian Caity Simmers, have competed in previous WSL championships, but this is the first year the event will be held on home ‘surf.’
A great time to bring the whole family to O’side, get inspired by the next generation of surf stars, and take a surf lesson yourself at the array of surf schools in town. Once you’re out of the water, walk downtown to the California Surf Museum, which shares the rich history of surfing and cares for Bethany Hamilton’s infamous shark-bitten surfboard, or venture inland to discover ‘Shapers Alley,’ a whole business district dedicated to custom board shaping.
And don’t miss the opportunity to check out Oceanside’s hot restaurant scene while you’re there! Get some fresh fish on the pier at Brine Box, real Southern flavors at Q&A Oyster Bar, or the award-winning plant-based dishes at The Plot.
