Professional Hockey is Coming to Oceanside This Fall

North County San Diego is getting a professional hockey team. Frontwave Arena has announced the arrival of a new Federal Prospects Hockey League franchise set to begin play this October, bringing professional ice hockey to the region for the first time.

For Frontwave Arena, it’s another step toward cementing its place as one of North County’s most serious sports and entertainment destinations. And for San Diego hockey fans, it’s a very good reason to start making plans for fall.

The League Making it Happen

The FPHL is entering its 17th season and has built a reputation around player development and community engagement.

It’s a well-established professional league, and Oceanside’s new franchise will be led by Frontwave Arena co-founder Phil Salvagio, alongside a native San Diegan and former professional athlete, and a seasoned figure with decades of experience in private investment, hockey, and rink operations.

It’s a leadership group with local roots, on-ice insight, and the operational know-how to build something that lasts.

Building Something That Lasts

Beyond the games themselves, this is a long-term investment in the community. Plans include the installation of permanent ice at Frontwave Arena, along with significant infrastructure upgrades: a state-of-the-art ice system, chiller, Zamboni, and everything else required to support professional hockey operations.

Youth hockey initiatives are also in the works, designed to expand access to the sport and develop the next generation of players in North County.

This One’s Up to You

Fans will have a hand in shaping the franchise’s identity through an upcoming “name the team” initiative launching soon.

Coaching staff, roster details, and the team logo will all be announced in the coming weeks, so there’s plenty more to look forward to before the puck drops in October.

See you there!
