Escape to Healdsburg for a Sparkling Holiday Season

Sometimes the best way to appreciate San Diego is to leave it for a few days, and if you’re looking for a winter escape that doesn’t involve snow chains or airport security lines, Healdsburg makes a solid case for itself. The Sonoma County wine country town is about an eight-hour drive up the coast, and this year they’re going all-in on holiday vibes with “A Season to Sparkle” running from November 15 through December 31.

A Whole Town Gets Festive

After a successful debut last year, Healdsburg’s wineries, restaurants, hotels, and shops are teaming up again to turn the entire destination into a winter wonderland.

We’re talking holiday menus, tree lighting ceremonies, and season-long programming that makes those picturesque wine country streets even more appealing than usual. It’s the kind of place where you can actually slow down, which feels increasingly rare these days.

Events Worth Planning Around

The season kicks off with Barndiva’s Sparkle Party on November 15 from 4 PM to 6:30 PM. Think candlelit rooms and gardens, signature sparkling wines, amuse-bouche, and entertainment that sets the tone for the whole celebration. It’s glamorous without trying too hard.

On December 5, the Merry Healdsburg Tree Lighting Ceremony takes over Healdsburg Plaza with carriage rides, live holiday music, Santa’s arrival, and a holiday market. If you’ve got family visiting or just want that classic small-town holiday experience, this delivers.

The Holiday Sip & Shop on December 6 lets you taste your way through more than 15 stops in downtown Healdsburg while getting your holiday shopping done. Award-winning wine plus supporting local businesses – it’s a productive way to spend an afternoon.

New Additions to the Scene

Healdsburg recently welcomed Appellation Healdsburg, the newest property from the culinary-first hotel brand founded by Michelin-starred Chef Charlie Palmer and hospitality veteran Christopher Hunsberger.

The hotel is hosting its own lineup of holiday happenings and dining experiences throughout the season, adding another layer to an already strong food and wine scene.

Road Trip Logistics

The drive from San Diego takes you up the coast with plenty of worthy stops along the way. Plan for at least a long weekend to make it worthwhile – you’ll want time to explore the wineries, walk the plaza, and actually relax instead of just checking boxes.

See you there!

November and December in wine country mean cooler temps, cozy tasting rooms, and fewer crowds than summer and fall bring, making Healdsburg Season to Sparkle a great reason for a road trip.
