Catalina Island’s Pavilion Hotel Is Getting a Fresh Spring Look (And We’re Already Booking)

Catalina Island’s Pavilion Hotel is reopening this spring with a completely refreshed look, and reservations are now open for stays starting in April. If beachfront escapes and mid-century vibes are your thing, this one’s worth getting on the calendar.

A Little Island History: From Dance Hall to Beachfront Hideaway

The Pavilion Hotel sits on a pretty special piece of Avalon real estate. Back in the 1890s, this waterfront spot was home to the Old Dance Pavilion, the social center of island nightlife until 1954.

After that, the Pavilion Lodge took its place, eventually becoming the Pavilion Hotel in 2010 following a major renovation that added tropical landscaping, a fire ring, and an ocean-view dining patio. Since then, it’s been one of Avalon’s go-to beachfront stays.

What’s Changing: Mid-Century Meets Coastal Botanicals

The refresh takes inspiration from the hotel’s 1958 roots, blending mid-century modern design with coastal botanicals and soft, misty color palettes. It’s all about capturing that classic island hideaway feel while keeping things relaxed and approachable.

The Rooms: Ocean Views and Thoughtful Design

Guest rooms and suites have been updated with modern comforts but still feel grounded in their surroundings. Ocean breezes, coastline views, and thoughtful design touches make each space feel connected to the island. Deluxe rooms and suites come with French doors or private patios that open onto the central courtyard.

Courtyard Central: Where the Wine and Cheese Hour Happens

The open-air courtyard is still the heart of the hotel, and it’s where most of the action happens. Mornings start quiet, and by evening, the space comes alive with the hotel’s signature wine and cheese social hour around the fire. It’s the kind of spot that encourages mingling and makes solo travelers feel less solo.

See you there!

The Pavilion Hotel reopens this spring, with stays available starting in April 2026.
