The San Diego International Jewish Film Festival is Back

Film lovers, mark your calendars! The 35th Annual San Diego International Jewish Film Festival (SDIJFF) returns with an exciting lineup of contemporary Jewish films. Running in-person and virtually, this prestigious festival is a must-attend event for cinephiles in San Diego.

What to Expect

Over 16 days, the SDIJFF will offer more than 30 incredible feature films and over ten short films that highlight the Jewish experience.

In-person screenings will be held at the David & Dorothea Garfield Theatre in La Jolla, while virtual screenings will be available on demand beginning February 9. Tickets range from $5 to $20 per program, with discounts for JCC members.

Festival Highlights

This year’s lineup of contemporary Jewish films offers a variety of thought-provoking and inspiring films, including:

• Bad Shabbos (Opening Night Film): A dark comedy blending Jewish tradition with a chaotic family dinner and a surprising savior. 2024 Tribeca Film Festival Audience Award winner.
• Sabbath Queen: A 21-year journey exploring inclusive Jewish spirituality through the lens of a gay man and descendant of Orthodox rabbis.
• Song of Ascent: Singer-songwriter Matisyahu uplifts survivors in Israel with his spiritual and hopeful music.
• The True Story of Tamara De Lempicka & The Art of Survival: A deep dive into the life of a modern painter who hid her Jewish identity to survive. Includes a panel discussion with the director and producer.
• Troll Storm: A documentary about resilience and justice as a woman fights back against neo-Nazi harassment. Includes a Q&A with the subject.
• Technion 10²: A celebration of the 100-year history of Israel’s leading technological institution and its role in shaping modern Israel.

Special Guests

Don’t miss the keynote address from Turner Classic Movies’ Ben Mankiewicz on February 4. Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Janis Ian will also attend for a discussion following the documentary Janis Ian: Breaking Silence on February 1.
