Art in the Village Celebrates 27 Years of Coastal Creativity in Carlsbad

Two and a half decades of artistic excellence return to Carlsbad Village. Art in the Village celebrates its 27th year bringing together more than 150 juried local and regional fine artists for a dynamic, open-air showcase that has become one of North County‘s most beloved cultural traditions.

Quality Art in Every Medium

Since 1998, this outdoor art show has maintained its commitment to excellence through a juried selection process that ensures high-quality work across diverse mediums.

From oil paintings and watercolors to glasswork, photography, woodworking, jewelry, pottery, and sculpture, the variety represents the incredible depth of talent in our regional arts community.

The interactive nature sets this apart from typical gallery experiences—visitors can meet artists in their booths, learn about their processes, and purchase original works directly from the creators.

Musical Stage and Sidewalk Performances

Entertainment sponsor Rincon Homes elevates this year’s musical offerings with three main stage acts and roving sidewalk musicians throughout the day.

The Morgan Leigh Band brings San Diego Music Awards-nominated country energy, while SoCal favorites The Ramblin Sweethearts fuse rockabilly, blues, roots, and soul. The David Spitzfaden Trio rounds out the lineup with music that inspires audiences to dance and feel every beat.

New Chalk Zone Features Local Icons

The addition of a dedicated Chalk Zone showcases live painting by five artists, including Carlsbad legends Phyllis Swanson and Ron Juncal.

Swanson’s 25-year muralist career includes features at prestigious events like Santa Barbara’s i’Madonnari street painting festival, while Juncal co-founded Carlsbad’s own ArtSplash chalk festival that ran for 13 years.

Interactive Experiences for All Ages

Beyond browsing and purchasing art, the festival offers hands-on experiences that engage visitors of all ages. Live glassblowing by Barrio Glassworks and sculpting with live models by Lieu de Sculpture provide fascinating demonstrations of artistic processes in action.

The City of Carlsbad Cultural Arts operates Pop-Up Art: An Interactive Encounter, a free art-making pavilion designed for children and families, while face painting ensures the youngest attendees leave with their own artistic creations.

Perfect Location and Accessibility

Just two blocks from Carlsbad State Beach, the State Street and Grand Avenue venue combines coastal charm with easy access. The nearby Carlsbad Village Coaster Station makes public transportation simple, while the city’s complimentary Bike Valet encourages eco-friendly travel to this sustainability-minded event.
