21st Annual Oceanside Dia De Los Muertos Festival Returns To Its Roots

The 21st Annual Oceanside Dia de los Muertos Festival is returning to its roots in Downtown Oceanside this October. The Festival of Dia de los Muertos celebrates the lives of the dead, the interaction between the living and the dead, and the cycle of life.

The altars are a must-see

The altars, full of “ofrendas” (offerings), are the focal point to observe the Día de los Muertos. In Mexico, altars are assembled at home and/or at the gravesides. Entire families construct altars as an annual commitment.

Usually, the altar consists of four levels and four sides, representing the four stages of life, the four points of the earth, the four seasons, and the four cardinal points upon the world exists and the pyramids were built.

Por Siempre Car Club

Each year, the Por Siempre Car Club sponsors the car show with blessing of the cars at the Oceanside Dia de los Muertos Festival. An important part of Dia de los Muertos are the altars and each car is required to set up an altar in the trunk of the car.

Participate in the Chalk Cemetery

The free interactive chalk cemetery, which has continuously grown over the past 18 years, gives you the opportunity to dedicate images, flowers, and candles to your loved ones.

Kids activities

Studio ACE will be on site for art and craft activities making masks, coloring, and providing information about art projects and education that provide to many areas around North County. AVID, Library and Dia group will also be providing a flower-making art project onsite with the Aztec history, origin and significance of the Cempazuchitl.

The Oceanside Dia De Los Muertos Festival aims to promote, educate and conserve the tradition of Dia de Los Muertos and its importance to the diversified community of Oceanside and its neighbors.
