Celebrate Black History Month With Chef Q Of Louisiana Purchase And Q&A

February is Black History Month, serving as a time to celebrate Black excellence, as well as a powerful reminder that Black History is American History. If you’re looking for a way to celebrate, Louisiana Purchase and Q&A Restaurant and Oyster Bar, both run by “celebrity status” Chef Q Austin, are celebrating authentic Southern and Creole cuisine not only during the entire month of February – but year-round!

Celebrate with Chef Q Austin’s amazing menu

Chef Q has roots in Louisiana and early experience delving into the Bayou’s culinary culture, as well as formal training at the Culinary Institute of New Orleans. He was able to lay the groundwork for a well-seasoned career. With French, Caribbean and Italian exposure giving him a broad outlook on sophisticated flavor combinations and elevated food pairings, he stays true to his commitment to treat food as art.

Chef Q Austin is also the co-founder and co-CEO of Bad Boyz of Culinary, organized to highlight African American Chefs and create awareness through scholarships, culinary programs, events, and mentorship.

Louisiana Purchase

Louisiana Purchase brings a NOLA-inspired flare to Louisiana Street in North Park! Indulge in menu items like Spicy Chicken Skillet, featuring Chef Q’s infamous airline fried chicken, smoked gouda mac n cheese, cornbread, and a chili glaze. What’s southern cooking without a little gumbo? Their Uptown Kitchen Sink Gumbo brews blonde roux gumbo, roasted chicken, andouille sausage, crawfish, shrimp, crab, and a scoop of rice. Visit the website here for more details.

Q&A Restaurant and Oyster Bar

Q&A Restaurant and Oyster Bar sources oysters from Louisiana, Virginia, and Northwestern Washington, and their menu invites guests to half a dozen ways to shuck. Their Charbroiled Oysters feature Cajun spice, garlic lemon butter and parmesan cheese, while their Rockefeller Oysters highlight spinach artichoke, herbs and cheese. Spice it up with Poppa Legba Oysters featuring sriracha lime butter sauce, ghost pepper, cilantro and lime. All menu items include the option to add prime rib or crabmeat! For more info, visit the website here.

Visiting restaurants with such prominent influence from Southern and Creole cultures is one of many ways to celebrate this Black History Month.

See you there, San Diego!
