New Gallery 201 Exhibit Spotlights Emerging Artists

A fresh wave of creativity is taking over Gallery 201 with the debut of All the Places We Belong, a compelling exhibition featuring Emerging Artists in Arts District Liberty Station.

The exhibit highlights the works of Sean Sarmiento and Gracie Moon, who explore themes of home, identity, and cultural storytelling through their six-month residencies.

A Reflection on Home and Identity

Curated by The Hill Street Country Club with lead curator Dinah Poellnitz, All the Places We Belong invites us to examine their personal connections to belonging.

Sarmiento’s work transforms everyday household objects—stove lights, night lamps—into evocative collages that capture the quiet intimacy of home. In contrast, Moon’s pieces critically explore the commodification of heritage, weaving personal memories from her Japanese-American upbringing into broader cultural narratives.

A Platform for Emerging Artists

Gallery 201 continues its mission of supporting emerging artists through the Emerging Artist Visual Arts Residency.

Thanks to the generous support of the Fleet Family Foundation, the program provides studio space, mentorship, and exhibition opportunities, making Liberty Station a thriving hub for San Diego’s creative economy.
