San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum Unveils New “Water Ways” Exhibit
The San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum invites families to explore Water Ways—a brand-new interactive exhibit that blends hands-on fun with meaningful learning in the great outdoors.
Located in the Museum’s Trudy Bronner Discovery Garden, Water Ways introduces young visitors to the fascinating world of water flow, movement, and conservation.
Kids can launch balls into a swirling water vortex, build mini dams, turn valves, and explore a scaled-down map of Escondido that highlights real local landmarks like Lake Hodges and the city’s Water Treatment Plant.

Learning Through Play
More than just water play, Water Ways exhibit is designed to foster STREAM skills (science, technology, reading, engineering, art, and math) and sensory development through engaging challenges.
As children move, splash, and manipulate the flow of water, they’re also building fine motor skills, experimenting with basic engineering concepts, and learning how clean drinking water flows from lakes to communities.
“We wanted to create an experience that inspires learning through movement and creativity,” says Whitney Raser, Director of Education. “Water Ways offers the perfect balance of fun and foundational skill building, while teaching kids how they can be everyday water savers.”
Fun With Purpose
Water Ways is just one of the many ways the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum continues to spark curiosity and promote real-world discovery through play. The exhibit is included with regular admission and generously supported by several community foundations and partners.
📅 Opens Tuesday, May 6 | 9:30 AM–4:30 PM
