Yasmina El-Abd Headlines Soirée en Égypte at the 5th Annual Soirée Francophone
San Diego has a way of hosting events that feel like they belong somewhere much grander – and the 5th Annual Soirée Francophone from the Alliance Française de San Diego is a great example of that. This year’s theme is Soirée en Égypte, and it’s set to be one of the more distinctive cultural evenings on the spring calendar.
A Night With Real Cultural Depth
The backdrop alone sets the tone: San Diego Bay, an elegant dinner, live performances, and a guest list that includes some genuinely impressive names.
This isn’t just a themed cocktail party – it’s a full evening built around Egypt’s artistic and cultural heritage, brought to life with the kind of care and detail the Alliance Française consistently delivers.
Meet the Star of the Evening
The headlining act is Egyptian-Swiss actress and singer Yasmina El-Abd, who many will recognize from the Netflix series Finding Ola. Beyond the small screen, she performed at the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo and earned a spot on Forbes Middle East’s 30 Under 30 list – the kind of recognition that speaks to real cultural reach.
Her music reflects a modern Egyptian voice, and seeing her perform live is something genuinely worth making plans for.
Distinguished Guests Adding to the Experience
Rounding out the evening are two other notable figures. Adrien Frier, Consul General of France in Los Angeles, brings serious diplomatic weight to the event, having worked across international relations, strategic affairs, and counterterrorism at the highest levels of French foreign policy.
And then there’s Samy Shoker – Egyptian Chess Grandmaster, FIDE title holder since 2014, and a competitor at both the Chess World Cup and Chess Olympiad. His presence adds a fascinating dimension to the night’s cultural mix.

What to Expect on the Night
The evening brings together live music, cultural encounters, and a traditional Egyptian dinner. It’s the kind of event where the conversation is as good as the food, and where you’ll likely leave knowing a bit more about Egyptian culture than when you arrived – and glad for it.
The 5th Soirée Francophone is supported by Villa Albertine, the Consulate General of France in Los Angeles, the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, and Principal Financial Network of Southern California.
