Come Out and Celebrate Three Animal Gotcha Days at Lions Tigers & Bears
At Lions Tigers & Bears sanctuary in Alpine, every animal has a story – and this season, three of its most beloved residents are marking their Gotcha Days, the anniversary of the day they officially became part of the sanctuary family.
For Moka, Rocky, and Kallie, these milestones represent something much bigger than a date on the calendar. They’re a reminder of how far each animal has come and the second chances that changed their lives forever.

Moka’s Road to the Sanctuary
Moka’s journey began when he was just two months old, rescued after being illegally trafficked across the U.S.-Mexico border.
Malnourished and in urgent need of specialized care, he was taken to the San Diego Safari Park, where he spent his first year recovering under expert supervision.
When it became clear he would need a permanent home outside of the Species Survival Plan breeding program, Lions Tigers & Bears stepped in.
Six years later, Moka has grown into a strong and thriving tiger who enjoys enrichment, spacious habitats, and the safety and care he deserves.
Rocky’s Life After the Spotlight
Before arriving at Lions Tigers & Bears in 2022, Rocky had a very different kind of life.
He spent years in the entertainment industry starring in motion pictures – including Semi-Pro alongside Will Ferrell – before eventually ending up in a small boarding facility that couldn’t properly meet the needs of a bear his size.
After his rescue, Rocky finally got the habitat he deserved – one built for exploring, playing, and relaxing. Four years on, he continues to thrive, charming staff and visitors alike with his playful personality, love of the pool, and enthusiasm for enrichment toys.
Kallie’s Remarkable Road to Recovery
Kallie arrived at Lions Tigers & Bears in 2022 after being rescued from a closed roadside zoo in Oklahoma, where years of neglect had left her in urgent need of medical care.
Shortly after her arrival, veterinarians discovered a severe injury in her left leg that required extensive surgery. Although complications ultimately led to amputation, Kallie never stopped fighting through her recovery.
Today she thrives on three legs – stronger, calmer, and finally living the peaceful life she was denied for so long.
