Watch Wax, Wood, and Acrylic Work on Each Other at Interlocking Harmony Exhibition
Wax, wood, and acrylic do not behave the same way. Sparks Gallery put all three in one room and let them work on each other.
Interlocking Harmony brings together Anne Gaffey, Tiffany Bociek, and Katerina Husar Lazarova, three contemporary artists whose practices have more in common than their materials suggest.

Wax, Wood, and Acrylic in the Same Room
The show runs on four material approaches: mixed-media painting, encaustic, layered wood, and acrylic. Encaustic is pigment suspended in hot wax, fused layer over layer, which leaves a surface with real depth in it.
Layered wood gets at the same idea in a harder material, stacking planes until the work carries physical relief. Set beside acrylic and mixed media, the way each surface takes light becomes the thing to watch.
Four approaches, one room, and no two surfaces asking for the same kind of attention. Stand close, then step back. Both distances give you something different.

Three Artists, Three Ways of Building a Surface
Gaffey, Bociek, and Lazarova each work in a visual language of their own, and the show is not trying to blend them into one voice. What ties them together is a shared instinct for surface, texture, movement, and what a material does as it changes.
That thread is the one to follow as you move through the room. Same instinct, three different routes to it.
See you there!
