Harvest for Heroes Brings Good Food and a Great Cause to Fox Point Farms
This one has a lot going for it. Shelter to Soldier is hosting Harvest for Heroes at Fox Point Farms in Encinitas – a free community fundraiser that brings together great food, local vendors, and a mission worth showing up for.
The beneficiary is Shelter to Soldier, an organization that pairs trained service dogs with post-9/11 veterans, and trains shelter dogs as crew members aboard U.S. Navy ships to support the mental health and morale of sailors and marines.
Dija Mara and Fresh Farm Fare
The food lineup is seriously impressive. Dija Mara – Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient and James Beard Award semifinalist – is bringing a curated selection of bites rooted in their inventive Balinese-inspired cuisine. Fox Point Farms rounds things out with fresh, seasonal offerings straight from the source.
Local vendors will also be on-site, with a portion of every purchase going directly to Shelter to Soldier’s programs.
The Mission Behind the Event
Funds raised support two programs close to the heart of what Shelter to Soldier does. The Psychiatric Service Dog Training Program places highly trained service dogs with veterans dealing with PTSD, traumatic brain injury, military sexual trauma, and other service-related injuries.
The Morale Dog Program trains adopted shelter dogs to live aboard Navy ships, giving sailors and marines a four-legged crew member to lean on. Both programs make a real difference, and this event is a direct way to contribute.
Admission is free – just show up.
