Break out the Paddles for Another Round of Urban Pickleball

Fifth Avenue is turning back into a pickleball court. The Gaslamp Quarter Association is bringing Urban Pickleball back for a six-week run, with five blocks between Market and K Street converted into open-air courts and a full evening of live music, local vendors, and Gaslamp restaurant perks around them.

For the uninitiated, this is San Diego’s only street-style pickleball setup. And this round is bigger: 13 courts total, including three new ones added to keep up with demand, plus a couple of fresh spaces built around the games themselves.

More Courts, Bigger Grid

The ladder-style open play format is back, which means we can jump in regardless of skill level. Whether we’ve been running clinics for months or just picked up a paddle, there’s a court and a level for us. DJ Spitz keeps things moving through the evening, and interactive games and giveaways stretch the party well beyond the courts themselves.

The New Sports Market

Also on the agenda: a game-day Sports Market spotlighting local vendors. We’re talking athletic apparel, pickleball gear, wellness products, healthy snacks, lifestyle brands, and giveaways, all set right in the middle of the action. It’s a good excuse to browse between matches or just show up to shop.

The Zero-Proof Garden

Also new this year, the Zero-Proof Garden is a social lounge dedicated to non-alcoholic drinks. Wellness beverages, hydration stations, kombucha, and Corona’s non-alcoholic option are all on the menu, so it’s easy to stay in the mix without the buzz. A solid move for a weeknight.

Paddle Hour Perks

Every registered player gets a wristband that unlocks Paddle Hour food and drink specials at participating Gaslamp restaurants and bars. The match ends, the wristband stays on, and dinner or drinks nearby comes with a discount. Add in the Spin-to-Win prize wheel with sponsor and business giveaways and there’s plenty to make a full night of it.

Registration is $45, or $40 for returning players, and includes court access, an official event T-shirt, Sports Market access, and the Paddle Hour discounts.

See you there!
