JFS Presents “The Bigger Picture: Guaranteed Income for the Future of SD” Traveling Exhibit

In 2022, the Jewish Family Service of San Diego rolled out the San Diego for Every Child Guaranteed Income Project—the first of its kind in the region—which provides direct cash assistance to those in need.

To share the moving stories of those impacted by this pilot program JFS has created “The Bigger Picture: Guaranteed Income for the Future of San Diego”—a traveling photo exhibit comprised of 20 vibrant oversized photos with poignant glimpses into the everyday lives of the families assisted, in their homes, caring for their children and at work.

“We are thrilled to have partnered with humanitarian photographer Michele Zousmer for this powerful exhibit,” Khea Pollard, director of economic mobility and opportunity for Jewish Family Service, said.

“This beautiful photo series depicts heartwarming, intimate moments that bring our community together and convey the kind of life we can—and should—collectively provide for our children and families.”

The event includes a panel conversation with program participants and the photographer and light refreshments.

The exhibit runs from January 29 to February 9 (the touring exhibit continues throughout 2024). The Opening Reception is February 1, from 6 PM to 7:30 PM.

The exhibit debuts at the A Reason to Survive (ARTS) center in National City and then will travel to various locations throughout San Diego County.

A ground-breaking guaranteed income program, the San Diego for Every Child Guaranteed Income Project has made a vital difference in the lives of 150 local families—providing them with $500 a month for 24 months, with no strings attached.

This exhibit helps convey the importance of guaranteed income, in which marginalized people are given a set amount of money to spend in ways they see fit for their families..

The exhibit will remain at each location for up to three weeks and will be situated in child-centered locations with a children’s viewing level as well as a sensory wall to further engage youngsters.
