Mister A’s Celebrates 60 Years of Iconic Dining in the Sky

One of San Diego’s most iconic restaurants is hitting a major milestone! Mister A’s 60th anniversary is here, and it’s shaping up to be a celebration worthy of its legendary skyline views and white-tablecloth legacy.

Since 1965, this Bankers Hill landmark has delivered unforgettable dining experiences, blending timeless elegance with panoramic vistas that make any evening feel extraordinary.

Mister A’s 60th anniversary

A Diamond Legacy in the Clouds

Mister A’s opened its doors in the 12th-floor penthouse of the Manchester Financial building, thanks to the vision of John Alessio, who wanted to create a fine dining experience like no other in San Diego.

Inspired by the glamour of penthouse restaurants in Acapulco, Mister A’s brought elevated cuisine and unmatched views to the city long before rooftop dining was a trend.

Over the decades, only three owners have carried the torch, each preserving the charm while ushering in their own chapter.

From Bertrand Hug’s national acclaim to Ryan Thorsen’s refined 2022 remodel—featuring luxe updates like restored crystal chandeliers and a raised lounge to meet the view—Mister A’s continues to evolve while honoring its storied past.
