Rooftop Cinema Club Gets Into The Holiday Spirit With A Lineup Of Holiday Favorites

It’s been a show-stopping year for Rooftop Cinema Club (RCC) at the Manchester Grand Hyatt with sold-out screenings on many a night, and with just two months remaining in the 2022 season, they are rolling into the holidays with a lineup packed with Christmas classics and seasonal favorites.

And don’t worry, they’ve got the blankets and bar ready to keep you toasty and snug while you watch your favorite holiday movies with the best views in San Diego!

An annual tradition of holiday giving

All throughout the holidays, Rooftop Cinema Club will be decked out in wintery décor, and the city’s most popular outdoor cinema will continue its annual tradition of holiday giving by partnering with San Diego-based Promises2Kids to raise much-needed funds to help support foster children who’ve been removed from their homes due to neglect and abuse.

Promises2Kids serves more than 3,000 current and former foster youth in San Diego and is dedicated to creating a brighter future for foster children.

When any guest purchases a ticket to attend a screening during the month of December at Rooftop Cinema Club Embarcadero, they’ll have the option to donate $1 to Promises2Kids. One hundred percent (100%) of contributed funds will go directly to Promises2Kids and at the conclusion of the month, Rooftop Cinema Club will match the final donation total.

November 3 to December 23 full lineup now available

Films that are sure to attract capacity crowds in November and December include the recently-released Top Gun: Maverick and Everything Everywhere All At Once, along with a slew of holiday classics, including Elf, Home Alone and Home Alone 2, The Grinch, The Polar Express, The Santa Clause and a plethora of others.

And special events and theme nights, a popular staple at Rooftop Cinema Club, will continue with “Corny Christmas Classics,” an Elf-a-Thon and an ode to National Ugly Sweater Day all wrapped around the ever-popular “People’s Choice” nights, sing-alongs, pet-friendly “Wooftop” screenings, open-caption films and others centered around the signs of the Zodiac.

The complete lineup from November 3 through this year’s December 23 closing date is attached and it’s also available online here. Rooftop Cinema Club will reopen at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in the Spring. Additional details on RCC’s upcoming theme nights and special events is below.

Theme nights and Special events

Corny Christmas Classics

Historically, Christmas is the season for giving, but it’s also a great time to bask in the guilty pleasure of a brand-new tradition at Rooftop Cinema Club: The “Corny Christmas” movie.

Everyone knows what that means: a romantic comedy peppered with beautiful snowfall, a melodrama that delivers drama with a capital “D”, or even a schmaltzy family classic that generations can share together. Join RCC Embarcadero as it celebrates this yuletide pastime for an entire weekend in December atop the Rooftop.

People’s Choice: DysFUNctional Family

This November as San Diegans gear up for the holidays, Rooftop Cinema Club will give away the choice of which dysfunctional family movie guests would like to see on the big screen.

Movie fans can vote for their favorite flawed, but lovable gang here! Voting closes October 27 and the winning film will be announced October 28.

Home Alone Double-Bill

“I’m eating junk and watching rubbish!” This December, RCC is serving up two rounds of Kevin McCallister vs. The Wet Bandits with a double-bill of the holiday classic Home Alone & it’s NYC-set sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, which coincidentally is celebrating its 30th anniversary on the big screen this year.

It’s a chance for all “ya filthy animals” to pick their favorite Home Alone flick or get tickets to both.

National Ugly Sweater Day

On National Ugly Sweater Day, RCC will deliver a double-dose of comedies that celebrate the most-beloved piece of holiday attire with National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and The Night Before. Guests are strongly encouraged to don their best ugly sweaters as prizes will be awarded to the best worst-dressed.

Elf-A-Thon

“I planned out our whole day.” For National Christmas Movie Marathon Day, Rooftop Cinema Club will keep it simple by screening the one-and-only holiday classic, Elf, all day long! Whatever time San Diegans need their yuletide dose of Buddy the Elf, RCC will have them covered.

Guests are strongly encouraged to come dressed up as Buddy the Elf and prizes will be given out to the best dressed Elves on the Rooftop.

Scorpio & Sagittarius Season

Continuing a new tradition that was started this year at Rooftop Cinema Club centered around the signs of the Zodiac, RCC Embarcadero will celebrate Scorpio season with films through November 22 and Sagittarius season from November 23 – December 21.

These special screenings will feature RCC’s favorite cinematic Scorpios and Sagittarius’s!
