April is a Big Month for San Diego Public Libraries—Here’s How to Support Them

April is a huge month for San Diego Public Libraries, with opportunities to give back, advocate, and celebrate everything they bring to the community! It all starts with Library Giving Day on April 1, where every donation is matched up to $25,000 to support vital programs and services.

San Diego Public Libraries

Support National Library Week

National Library Week highlights the impact of libraries, with themed days dedicated to recognizing library staff, programs, and resources. But advocacy is more urgent than ever—San Diego’s libraries already operate on a budget that’s less than 70% of the state average, and further cuts are expected.

On April 21, the Library Foundation SD and supporters will take their case to City Council, pushing for funding that keeps libraries accessible to all.

Join the San Diego Book Crawl

Then, book lovers get their turn to celebrate! The San Diego Book Crawl returns, offering a weekend of indie bookstore hopping, prizes, and a special appearance from author Dave Eggers (A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius).

Eggers will visit eight local bookstores, including Library Shop SD, as part of this year’s festivities.

See you there!

Libraries aren’t just about books—they’re essential spaces for learning, connection, and creativity. This April, show your support for San Diego Public Libraries by donating, advocating, and joining in on the celebration.
