Trinity Theatre Company is Bringing its Community Theater Model to North County

Trinity Theatre Company has been doing something genuinely interesting at Mission Valley Mall for the past three years – dropping live performance, theater education, and community outreach right into the middle of a commercial space and watching the community show up for it. It worked.

Now they’re taking that same model north, with a second location opening at The Shoppes at Carlsbad.

A Model Built for the Community

The Mission Valley space proved the concept. From Trinity Tots programming for the youngest theater fans to Living Room Readers for seniors, the company has built a year-round arts home that serves all ages – and the auditions and attendance have reflected it.

Artistic Director Sean Boyd puts it simply: “We saw the decline in mall attendance as an opportunity to help reconnect the community to a commercial space – with performance art as the conduit.”

The Carlsbad location fills a real gap. As Boyd points out, there’s currently no year-round arts education in Carlsbad, and no consistent arts programming for seniors or military communities. Trinity is bringing both.

What’s Coming First

The inaugural production at the new space is The Addams Family, with auditions open to young performers ages eight to 18 taking place at the end of August. Connor Boyd will helm the Carlsbad location as Regional Manager.

Come See the Space Before the Season Starts

Before the curtain goes up on the first production, Trinity is hosting a community open house with performances and activities so North County neighbors can come check out the space. It’s a great way to get a feel for what Trinity does before the programming kicks into full gear.

Trinity is also currently gathering survey feedback from North County neighbors about future arts programming – worth taking a few minutes to weigh in.
