USS Midway’s Legacy Week To Honor Our Heroes This Memorial Day Weekend
The USS Midway Museum’s “Legacy Week” is the heart and soul of Memorial Day commemoration in San Diego. This year, we are offering our iconic activities onboard! From a Memorial Day Wreath Ceremony to an interactive Remembrance Wall, to our annual blood drive – each element of Midway’s Legacy Week commemoration is designed to honor and remember our heroes and celebrate our military heritage.
Schedule of Events
USAA “Poppy Exhibit” | May 27 to September 5
The seven feet by seven feet exhibit will also provide an interactive display to encourage visitors to pause and reflect on the more than 645,000 military service members who gave their lives in service to our country.
Remembrance Wall – Virtual Display & Temporary Exhibit | May 27 to May 30
Remember those who have paid the ultimate price serving our country by submitting a picture on our Virtual Remembrance Wall. This wall is an opportunity to publicly honor their legacy and thank these courageous individuals for their sacrifice for our freedom. Select photos will be printed and displayed in a temporary exhibit that will be onboard May 27 – 30. This event is included in regular Museum admission.
THE MUSIC MACHINE, Bonita Vista High School Mixed Show Choir | May 28, 12PM, PDT
As part of the USS Midway Museum’s annual Legacy Week line-up, enjoy live entertainment on the flight deck by one of San Diego’s top-ranked advanced mixed show choirs, the Bonita Vista Music Machine on Saturday, May 28! Be sure to head to the flight deck to get your seats for this entertaining patriotic performance! This event is included in regular Museum admission. Click here for more info.
U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Arizona Band Performance | May 30, 11AM & 2:15PM, PDT
Enjoy live entertainment on the flight deck. Listen to the patriotic sounds of an amazing ensemble of US Coast Guard Auxiliary instrumentalists! This is a timed performance so be sure to head to the flight deck to get your seats! This event is included in regular Museum admission.
Meet the Aviators and the Planes They Flew | May 29
Join us on Sunday, May 29 to meet incredible former aviators and the aircraft they flew. Come aboard Midway to learn about flying a F-14 Tomcat, E-2 Hawkeye, and more from these experts! This event is included in regular Museum admission.
Virtual Memorial Day Wreath Ceremony | May 30, 9AM, PDT
A special wreath ceremony event streamed via Facebook Live. Inspire patriotism and appreciation for those who serve by honoring the fallen. This event will include guest speakers, taps, and tossing of wreaths over the ship. For more info, click here.
National Moment of Remembrance | May 30. 3PM, PDT
Established into law by Congress in 2000, the National Moment of Remembrance is when Americans pause and observe a moment of silence at 3PM on Memorial Day to honor those who have fallen while serving in the U.S. military. Join us on the flight deck to observe a moment of silence, or wherever you are, to pause and remember those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice while in uniform.
Blood Drive | May 30, 10AM – 4PM, PDT
Stop by the San Diego Blood Bank trailer on Navy Pier (within the Ace Parking Lot) to make a donation! Donors will receive one (1) free pass to the USS Midway Museum, while supplies last.

United Through Reading Story Recording | May 28, 10AM-4PM
United Through Reading keeps military families reading ready, no matter the distance between them. We invite service members and veterans to visit the United Through Reading recording location on the flight deck of the USS Midway to video record a story for the special child in your life on May 28th, 10AM until 4PM.
