Museum Of Photographic Arts Returns To Its Roots As A Community Attraction Without Walls

The Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA) is going virtual while its brick-and-mortar location remains closed to combat the spread of COVID-19. This is an opportunity for the museum to return to its roots: a museum without walls, as it once used spaces throughout San Diego to bring art to all communities.

Now, MOPA is taking its experience online and becoming a virtual refuge for those seeking an escape through art. Museum patrons can engage with live videos, social media lessons and more from the comfort of their homes.

WHY

MOPA is committed to making art accessible to everyone, especially during times when people are searching for an escape. The creative minds behind the museum embraced the need to change how people access its art, and are now bringing MOPA’s culture into people’s living rooms.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Live Shows: MOPA will produce weekly shows for youth, family and adult learning

Social Media: #MOPAConnects will engage a community of photographic artists

YouTube: From how-to videos to artist one-on-ones, a diverse set of fun content comprise MOPA’s YouTube channel

Online Exhibitions: Browse the creativity of San Diego photographer and filmmaker, Lynn G. Fayman, or face the past with the century-old works by Edward S. Curtis

MOPA’s Pay What You Wish Program

MOPA welcomes virtual participants through donation-based admission. Guests can enjoy access to this state-of-the-art exhibition with suggested donations through MOPA’s Pay What You Wish program. The program is possible thanks to donor, member and guest contributions.

Enjoy and stay healthy, San Diego!
