The Children’s Museum of Discovery Hosts Science & Engineering Night
The Children’s Museum of Discovery in Escondido is hosting its annual Science & Engineering Night, offering families an after-hours opportunity to dive into hands-on STREAM activities.
This event provides children ages 4-10 with early exposure to science, technology, reading, engineering, art, and math education through more than 15 interactive activities designed to spark curiosity and learning.
What Makes This Event Special
Science & Engineering Night transforms the museum into an interactive learning playground where children can engage with real scientists and engineers while exploring topics from robotics to kinesiology.
Activities include learning about robotics and coding with Magikid Robotics Lab, exploring a firetruck with the Escondido Fire Department, and discovering kinesiology through dance with Lovely Leaps Dance Studio.
CEO Christina Piranio emphasized that the museum prides itself on creating authentic hands-on learning experiences that spark a love of learning.
Through events like this one, they’re providing families with opportunities to build foundational skills in STEM education while fostering natural wonder about everything from archaeology to electrical circuits.
Community Partnership and Access
The museum’s STREAM programs serve as an introduction to science and engineering for many families, particularly economically disadvantaged families who may not have access to these hands-on programs at home.
The variety of community partners sharing their expertise makes the evening more comprehensive and authentic than typical museum programming.
Special discounts are available for military and veteran families and families with EBT/WIC/SNAP, ensuring that cost doesn’t become a barrier to participation. At $12 for members and $17 for non-members, the pricing remains accessible while requiring pre-registration to manage capacity and ensure quality experiences.
The Educational Impact
The after-hours format allows families to experience the museum in a more relaxed setting without the crowds and time constraints of regular operating hours. The 2.5-hour timeframe gives families enough time to move through multiple activities without feeling rushed while maintaining kids’ attention spans.
The focus on ages 4 to 10 recognizes the critical window for developing interest in STEM subjects, when children are naturally curious and open to hands-on exploration. Meeting real scientists and engineers helps children see these career paths as accessible and exciting rather than abstract or intimidating.

Building Future Scientists
The museum’s approach through unique themed events like Science & Engineering Night provides hands-on curriculum that sparks innate curiosity about the world and builds a foundation for future learning. The combination of structured activities with exploration opportunities lets children discover what captures their interest most.
Generous sponsorship from Hologic demonstrates corporate commitment to STEM education and helps keep the program accessible to families throughout the community.
