Kura Revolving Sushi Bar is Opening in Mission Valley – and it Comes With Robots

San Diego’s sushi scene just got a little more fun. Kura Revolving Sushi Bar is opening its second San Diego location at The Valley shopping center in Mission Valley, and the grand opening is worth showing up for.

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar

Sushi on a Belt, Robots Included

Kura is a Japanese revolving sushi concept where over 100 menu items – sushi, sashimi, tempura, noodles, desserts, and more – circle the dining room on a two-level conveyor belt. Grab what looks good, and order anything else through a touch panel at your table.

All sushi plates are priced at $3.95, with other dishes varying in price. The food is made without artificial sweeteners, seasonings, preservatives, or colorings.

The Setup is Actually Pretty Cool

Two belts run the show. The primary belt carries plates protected by Kura’s patented Mr. Fresh™ ventilated lids, which limit airborne exposure and track how long each plate has been circulating.

The Express Belt above delivers items ordered through the touch panel straight from the kitchen to your table. And yes, drink delivery robots are part of the picture.

Play the Prize Game

Every table has a plate disposal slot, a touch panel, and a prize machine – the Bikkura Pon Prize System. Drop in five plates and a short animation plays. Hit 15, and a prize comes out of the machine, then again at 25, and every 15 plates after that.

Grand Opening Perks

The first 150 seated people on opening day will receive a commemorative t-shirt (arriving early helps – a reservation doesn’t guarantee one). Kura Sushi Rewards members who check in and dine between May 29 and May 31 will be entered to win a “Kura Sushi for a Year” gift card, with five winners each receiving a $300 gift card.

See you there!

Whether you’re a longtime Kura fan or discovering it for the first time, Mission Valley now has a great reason to linger a little longer over lunch or dinner.
