“Afghan Heart, French Love” Exhibition Brings a Global Story to San Diego
Artist Manaz Raiszadeh invites San Diego into her world through Afghan Heart, French Love, a deeply personal solo exhibition now on view at the Alliance Française of San Diego.
Through evocative, abstract paintings, Raiszadeh—who was born in France to Afghan parents—gives voice to a life shaped by dual heritage, displacement, and the universal longing for home.

The exhibit is both a tribute to resilience and a meditation on love as a radical act. Raised with stories of Afghanistan’s beauty and its heartbreak, Raiszadeh paints from the space between worlds, where sorrow and joy collide.
Her canvases reflect the emotional weight of war and exile, but also the freedom found in artistic expression—a space where identity is reclaimed, and every brushstroke tells a story.
A Personal Journey Across Borders
The name Afghan Heart, French Love perfectly captures Raiszadeh’s layered identity. Her paintings explore what it means to be both rooted and untethered. “To the French, I’m an outsider. To Afghans, a stranger. But in front of a canvas, I am home,” she shares.
It’s this sense of belonging through art that fuels her work and invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences with culture, memory, and place.

Part of the San Diego French Film Festival
The exhibition runs in conjunction with the San Diego French Film Festival, whose 2025 theme is “Love in all its forms.” Through Raiszadeh’s powerful use of color and composition, love becomes both subject and medium—a force that transcends language, borders, and time.
