Arts District Liberty Station Gets a Fresh New Identity That Honors Its Past and Future
Arts District Liberty Station just unveiled a fresh new identity, and we’re here for every bit of this exciting transformation at one of our favorite cultural destinations. This brand refresh perfectly captures what this place has always meant to our creative community while pointing toward an even brighter future.

What’s Behind the New Name
You might remember this space as the NTC Foundation, but the new branding to Arts District Liberty Station better reflects what’s actually happening across those 26 historic buildings.
The rebrand unifies both the physical campus and all the incredible programming that happens there under one cohesive identity. It’s recognition of how this place has evolved into something truly special for artists and culture lovers alike.
Lisa Johnson, President and CEO, put it perfectly when she talked about reaffirming their dedication to being a premier arts and culture hub where creativity, culture, and community thrive.
We’ve watched this transformation happen over the years, and seeing it acknowledged in their new identity feels like a natural progression.
Programs That Actually Matter
What keeps us coming back are the programs that genuinely support our local creative scene and provide meaningful experiences for visitors:
- Emerging Artists Residency Programs: These offer free studio space to up-and-coming visual and performing artists throughout the San Diego and Southern Baja region. We love seeing fresh talent get the support they need to develop their careers and connect with the broader artistic community.
- Arts District Collaborative Program: This encourages tenant organizations to work together on public-facing projects that celebrate diversity and cultural expression. Some of our most memorable experiences have come from these collaborative efforts that bring different artistic perspectives together in unexpected ways.
- Installations at the Station Program: These commissioned outdoor public art pieces highlight our unique San Diego-Baja California transborder culture. They’re not just decorative pieces but meaningful expressions of our regional identity that make each visit feel like a cultural discovery.
- Liberty School: This transformative educational initiative provides underserved students with opportunities to engage with arts and culture organizations while enhancing their creative skills. It’s community investment that creates lasting impact for the next generation of artists and culture enthusiasts.

Monthly Discoveries and Summer Celebrations
- First Friday: This has become one of our regular monthly traditions. There’s something magical about exploring the campus, meeting artists in their studios, and discovering new public art installations throughout the historic buildings. Each visit reveals something different, whether it’s a new artist we hadn’t encountered before or an installation that makes us see the space in a completely new light.
- Summer Arts Fest: These celebrations bring the energy during the warmer months with music, creativity, and community on the North Promenade. We’re already planning our summers around these gatherings that showcase what makes our local arts scene so vibrant.

Why This Rebrand Matters
The transformation from a collection of repurposed buildings into a dynamic ecosystem that nurtures creativity and community connection has been remarkable to witness.
The rebrand captures this evolution while honoring the historical significance of Liberty Station itself. We appreciate how they’re balancing preservation of the past with innovation for the future.
