Cormorant Boutique Hotel Opens With Ocean Views And La Jolla’s Newest Rooftop Restaurant

The 26-room Cormorant Boutique Hotel opens today in La Jolla Village. Named after the area’s famed Cormorant birds and influenced by the beauty of its surroundings, the contemporary hotel features coastal-inspired guestrooms with private balconies, panoramic Pacific Ocean views and La Jolla’s newest rooftop bar and lounge, Birdseye.

Cormorant

“We are excited to welcome guests to San Diego’s newest boutique hotel,” said general manager David Vecchione. “Our hotel offers effortless elegance with comforts and activities of the barefoot-chic San Diego lifestyle and will serve as a relaxing escape for out-of-town guests and locals alike.”

Design

Cormorant

Acquired by San Diego–based Oceanic Enterprises in 2016, the upscale property has undergone an extensive renovation and rebranding with design led by Greenwood & Black. Combining classic midcentury-modern design with art deco touches, Cormorant features bold lighting fixtures, geometric wall art and wallpaper designs, and two vibrant pop-art murals from local artist Vango.

The exterior of the property evokes a fresh take on the local lifestyle, while the interior reflects the history of the coastal town.

Cormorant comprises 26 chic guestrooms, 22 of which have private balconies offering expansive palm-lined views of the Pacific Ocean.

Each room features a soft neutral color palette blended with ocean-tone hues, carpet inspired by abstracted barnacles and sand-colored woodwork. The spaces are adorned with Cormorant-inspired art that pays homage to these majestic birds, which are found nesting in the La Jolla bluffs below.

Custom built-in furniture, luxury mattresses and specialty amenities like Nespresso machines, digital room service, keyless entry and valet parking enhance the unique seaside experience. Guests can also reap the benefits of exercising in a world-class gym with a complimentary gym pass to Life Time La Jolla, located one block from the hotel.

Birdseye, the hotel’s rooftop restaurant and bar led by chef Luciano Scagliarini, offers a “bird’s-eye view” of La Jolla’s shores and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, serving modern coastal cuisine with flavors from Argentina and Baja California.

Signature menu items include Beef and Corn Empanadas served with chimichurri sauce (chef’s family recipe), tempura-battered Shrimp Tacos, Carnitas Eggs Benedict topped with avocado hollandaise, and a ‘Diving Bird’ cocktail made with coconut cream, pandan, rum and tropical fruit juices.

Birdseye is accessed through an outdoor alleyway decorated with a pop-art mural and living plant wall, inviting guests to ascend above the bluffs and sip a cocktail while watching the sun set over the ocean.

The property is also home to Prospect Market, an upscale grab-and-go marketplace featuring fresh juices, snacks and beverages, along with souvenirs from local businesses. This venue pays homage to the property’s origins as the only market in La Jolla Village in the 1940s.

Guests can grab a bottle of wine and a charcuterie board to enjoy on the market’s balcony or pick up a picnic lunch to take to the beach.

Meet

Cormorant offers a prime oceanside venue for corporate and social functions, from corporate meetings to holiday parties and weddings. Birdseye’s intimate rooftop terrace can accommodate groups of up to 50 guests. The hotel is also available for full buyouts to create the ultimate oceanside retreat.

Play

Cormorant is set on a dramatic seven-mile stretch of sunny coastline and offers easy access to the famous La Jolla Cove, dozens of boutique shops, art galleries and restaurants in The Village, and the cliff-top Torrey Pines PGA course.

Guests have convenient access to a range of year-round recreational activities such as hiking, kayaking, sailing and whale watching. The hotel is also a short drive away from world-class attractions like the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, Balboa Park and La Jolla Playhouse.

Opening Special

To celebrate the opening, the hotel is offering a romantic “Picnic Package,” which includes overnight accommodations and a curated picnic for two via a partnership with Pop Up Picnic Co., as well as a special rate of 15% off for Southern California residents.

Hotel rates start at $299 per night. For more information or to make a reservation, please call 888-425-5655 or visit here.
