Soak Under Desert Stars at San Diego’s Hidden Mineral Hot Springs

Turns out we’ve got natural mineral hot springs less than an hour from downtown. Jacumba Hot Springs sits along Old Highway 80 in the Sonoran Desert, where geothermal waters bubble up straight from the earth into historic soaking pools. No chemicals, no filters – just pure mineral water that’s been flowing for centuries.

Three Mineral Pools, Each With Its Own Vibe

Three pools anchor the property, each with its own personality. The Ritual Pool is the main attraction – the largest on-site and the social hub where most people end up. Temperatures hover between 96 and 101 degrees, and there’s poolside service if you want food or drinks without leaving the water.

The Solstice Pool offers a quieter alternative with the same mineral-rich water. It catches sun longer into the day and draws fewer crowds, making it ideal for anyone looking to zone out for a few hours.

Hotel guests get access to the Echo Room, an indoor 24-hour pool with skylights and a private courtyard. But for day visitors, the two outdoor pools are more than enough.

How Day Passes Work (Plus Night Soaks Under the Stars)

Day-use passes start at around $26 for a four-hour weekday window at the Ritual Pool. If you want access to both pools, the Solstice Pass runs higher but gives you the full range of the property.

The Star Soak Pass is where things get interesting. For about $25, you can slip into the Ritual Pool from 5 PM to midnight and soak under the desert sky. It’s dark out here – actually dark – so the stars come out hard.

Monthly and yearly unlimited passes are available too, starting at $77 a month for weekday access. If you’re the type who’d drive out here regularly, it pays off fast.

Private Cabanas and High Desert Dining

Private cabanas line the Ritual Pool with couches, lounge chairs, and dedicated service. Day cabanas run from 10 AM to 4 PM, night cabanas from 4 PM to 9 PM. Prices start around $280 and go up depending on group size.

Chef Leonardo Ceja’s menu leans into the high desert setting with ingredients from Imperial Valley farms and Baja seafood. The poolside menu keeps it straightforward – burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, a za’atar bowl for plant-based eaters. Frozen cocktails, beer buckets, and scorpion bowls round out the drink list.

What to Know Before You Go

All pools are 21 and up. Hours run 9 AM to 9 PM daily. Booking ahead is smart, especially on weekends when slots fill up.

The drive takes about an hour from downtown San Diego, straight east into the desert. Once you’re there, the heat, the water, and the wide-open quiet make it worth the trip.

See you there!

Sometimes the best spots are the ones hiding in plain sight, an hour down the highway.
