San Diego History Center Receives San Diego Art From Local Collectors Bram And Sandra Dijkstra
The San Diego History Center is honored to receive the donation of 15 works of fine art from the collection of Bram and Sandra Dijkstra of Del Mar. The paintings will become part of the center’s permanent collection at its museum in Balboa Park.
“We are astounded at the generosity of Bram and Sandy,” said San Diego History Center President and CEO Bill Lawrence. “The works they are donating align with our collecting focus of featuring the best works representing the San Diego region”.
“We shall miss these works, as they’ve become a part of our family, but it’s for a good cause!” said Sandra Dijkstra. “We hope that this gift will motivate other collectors to step up and help grow the History Center’s collection so that it becomes even more representative of the BEST work by our City’s and County’s great artists, contemporary and historical.”
These works are currently on display at the San Diego History Center’s Balboa Park Museum as part of the exhibition Collecting San Diego – Selections from the Dijkstra Fine Art Collection. The exhibition is scheduled to close January 15, 2023.
The donation helps expand the San Diego History Center’s vast collection of Fine Art, which includes more than 1700 pieces. Included in the donation are significant works of women and artists who have previously not been part of the historical collecting focus.
“The San Diego History Center has as its unique mission preserving, revealing and promoting the history of the San Diego region,” said Lawrence, and these works help us illustrate and celebrate this unique culture and heritage.”
