Little Italy’s Civico 1845 Honored as “Ambassadors of Italian Cuisine”

With Italy poised to receive the coveted UNESCO World Heritage Designation for its food, a San Diego eatery—Civico 1845—is also in the limelight and was honored last week as “ambassador of Italian cuisine” at the annual Fancy Food Show in Las Vegas!

According to Dario Gallo, who, with his brother Chef Pietro Gallo, is co-owner of Civico 1845, as part of the Fancy Food Show—an annual trade show dedicated to specialty foods and beverages—the gastronomy of Italy took center stage, with the country’s UNESCO candidacy in the spotlight.

At the event, the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) held a special showcase of Italian cuisine, hosting 150 famed Italian brands and luminaries and honoring eight Italian restaurants as ambassadors at the Mercato della Pescheria restaurant at Las Vegas’s The Venetian Resort.

Recognition as Ambassadors of Italian cuisine

Civico 1845 was among the eight restaurants nationwide considered the best ambassadors of Italian cuisine in this country!

“We are honored that the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and ITA has lauded our restaurant as ambassadors of the Italian Cuisine in the United States,” said Gallo.

“This special designation is part of the recent nomination of Italy’s cuisine for the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list. We are beyond proud to be selected for this honor—and to represent our culture and traditions through our authentic and traditional cuisine.”

The Italian government nominated “Italian cuisine: sustainability and biocultural diversity” for UNESCO status last year. According to the European Food Agency, the evaluation of Italian cuisine’s UNESCO designation should be completed by December 2025.

In a video address at the Fancy Food Show, the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobridgida, cited his country’s work with the U.S. trade industry to get more Italian ingredients imported so that restaurants, distributors, and others will have more access to the ingredients needed to make authentic Italian food.

See you there!

Founded in 2015 by brothers Dario and Pietro Gallo—both born and raised in Cosenza, Italy—Civico 1845 has since emerged as an authentic Little Italy destination, offering fresh, light, and inspired cuisine, including an expansive array of scratch-made entrees and desserts.
