Boba Religion Celebrates One Year of Vietnamese Tea Culture in Convoy

Convoy’s boba scene has no shortage of options, but Boba Religion has carved out its own lane over the past year – and now the Victorian-inspired tea house is celebrating its first anniversary in Kearny Mesa.

Founded by first-generation Vietnamese American entrepreneur Vy Bui, the female-owned shop has quietly built a loyal following, earning near five-star ratings while introducing San Diego to thoughtfully sourced Vietnamese teas and ingredients straight from the source.

Rooted in Vietnam, Poured in San Diego

Boba Religion isn’t just another boba stop. From the beginning, the focus has been on honoring Vietnamese tea traditions with transparency and care.

The tea is sourced directly from Bao Loc in Vietnam’s Central Highlands. The organic honey used in select drinks comes from Phuoc Son District along the South Central Coast. That intentional sourcing reflects the brand’s commitment to quality while staying connected to heritage.

Inside, the Victorian-inspired interior adds to the experience, creating a setting that feels distinct from the typical grab-and-go tea shop. Every detail, from sourcing to presentation, is designed to make each drink feel meaningful.

As Bui shared, the goal has always been to create an authentic experience that honors Vietnamese tea traditions while serving the San Diego community with integrity. Reaching the one-year mark is a milestone rooted in gratitude for the guests who’ve supported the shop from day one.
