Big news for San Diego’s food scene—Park Hyatt Aviara’s new chef, Benjamin Lara, is stepping into the role of Chef de Cuisine at Ponto Lago, the resort’s Baja-inspired dining destination.

Known for his expertise in wood-fired cooking and ingredient-driven cuisine, Lara is set to bring a bold new energy to this North County favorite. Expect an elevated menu that celebrates Baja flavors with a modern Southern California twist.

A Culinary Journey Through San Diego’s Finest Kitchens

Lara’s career is deeply rooted in San Diego’s top restaurants. Most recently, he served as Chef de Cuisine at Michelin-recognized Campfire in Carlsbad, where he spent three years perfecting open-flame cooking techniques.

Before that, he played a key role in menu development as Executive Sous Chef at the renowned Mister A’s. He also trained under Michelin-starred chef Michael Mina, learning the intricacies of running a high-caliber restaurant group.

Beyond his technical skills, Lara is known for his dedication to working with local farms and fishermen. His commitment to sustainability and fresh ingredients ensures every dish at Ponto Lago is infused with the best flavors of the region.
