Looking for things to do in San Diego for 4th of July? You’re in luck – there is no better place to celebrate the 4th of July than America’s Finest City!
From the beautiful beaches that beckon people from near and far to the festive community events that stretch back generations, there’s something to do in practically every neighborhood.
Here’s a list of some of the most red, white, and blue things to do in San Diego for 4th of July.
Hit the Beach
Heading to one of our amazing beaches on the 4th of July is a tradition in San Diego that simply can’t be beat.

Get there early and hold down your spot.
Head to the County Fair in Del Mar
The San Diego County Fair is going strong, and the 4th of July is a great time to be there! As if the fair isn’t enough, you’ll also get a great view of the fireworks. Can’t make it on the 4th? Don’t worry, the fair is open until the 5th this year.
You’ll find all of your fair favorites, including shopping, over-the-top food concessionaires, a Ferris wheel and carousel, pet-themed exhibits, demonstrations, contests, and “edu-tainment” designed to educate and delight families looking to get outside for some real-life, in-person, and down-home fun.
Take in the Parade and the Frog-X Demonstration at Coronado
Coronado takes the Fourth seriously, and this year’s lineup proves it. The 77th Annual Independence Day Parade kicks things off down Orange Avenue at 10 AM, then the afternoon fills out nicely with an Adrian Empire demonstration, a San Diego Star Wars Society photo-op at Star Park, and a Frog-X parachute demonstration over the golf course.
Kids get their own concert with Katleen Dugas singing Disney songs at Spreckels Park, followed by a full patriotic set from the Coronado Concert Band.
The whole day wraps with fireworks over the golf course at 9 PM, soundtrack simulcast on KYXY Radio 96.5 FM.
Honestly, you could spend the entire Fourth right here and not miss a thing.
Watch the Fireworks From One of These Hot Spots
Watching the Big Bay Boom – or any of the best 4th of July fireworks shows in San Diego – is a 4th of July MUST!
From massive bay-wide spectaculars to neighborhood shows up and down the coast, the options are spread across the county
Or, if you’d prefer to keep it a little more low-key, throw a blanket down on your favorite beach and enjoy the show from there – you really can’t go wrong!
Take in Some Military History
San Diego has a rich military history that runs deep in our community, and 4th of July is the perfect time to learn about and experience its impact.
The USS Midway
The USS Midway Museum is hosting a benefit concert and fireworks celebration on the Fourth.
The World Classic Rockers are headlining the flight deck with the kind of catalog that needs no introduction. Think “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “More Than a Feeling,” and “Evil Ways,” performed live on one of the most storied aircraft carriers in American naval history with front-row views of the Big Bay Boom.
Net proceeds go toward Freedom Park at Burnham Navy Pier, set to be the largest veterans-dedicated park on the West Coast – so the night carries real meaning beyond the music. There aren’t many places in San Diego where you can mark America’s 250th birthday quite like this.
General admission starts at $100, with chair bundles available, and kids three and under get in free. Members get 20% off and early access.
Liberty Station’s Anchored in Freedom
There’s something fitting about celebrating America’s 250th birthday at Liberty Station – San Diego’s former Naval Training Center, where the connection to military service runs through every brick.
Anchored in Freedom kicks off with a Fleet Week 5K in the morning, then opens into a full community festival with a patriotic parade, live music from the U.S. Navy Band, a wing eating contest hosted by Dirty Birds, and family-friendly activities throughout Ingram Plaza.
It’s the kind of day that balances celebration with something a little more meaningful – and honestly, one of the better ways to spend July 3 in the city.
Catch an Outdoor Concert
Between the Rady Shell, Del Mar Fairgrounds, and others, San Diego has some of the best outdoor venues in the country to enjoy a summer evening at a concert.
On 4th of July, pack up your picnic gear and head to The Shell or Del Mar for live performances that will leave you feeling patriotic!
Hold Down a Seat at a Beach Bar
Sometimes the best Fourth of July plan is the simplest one – find a spot with sand nearby, a cold drink in hand, and nowhere to be.
San Diego’s beach bars have the all-day party energy down to a science, and the Fourth is the perfect excuse to lean into it. Grab a fruity cocktail, claim a seat in the sun, and let the people-watching do the rest.
Visit an Amusement Park
We’re lucky to have plenty of options around San Diego. Whether you’re after beachfront thrills, family-friendly attractions, or an all-day celebration, our local amusement parks make it easy to turn Independence Day into a full day of fun.
Belmont Park is always a favorite for its rides, games, oceanfront dining, and unbeatable beach vibes. Families can head to Legoland for the park’s annual Red, White and BOOM! celebration, featuring patriotic entertainment and festive activities throughout the day.
SeaWorld San Diego is another great Fourth of July destination, with animal encounters, thrilling rides, live shows, and a spectacular fireworks display to cap off the holiday.
Step Back in Time
For a Fourth of July that feels nothing like a typical holiday weekend, two San Diego destinations are going old-school in the best way.
In Poway, Old Fashioned Fourth brings a turn-of-the-20th-century celebration with patriotic entertainment, free children’s crafts, train displays, old-fashioned games, tasty treats, and train rides – plus free shuttle service to make it easy.
Over at Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, California State Parks and the Boosters of Old Town are throwing it back to how early San Diego residents celebrated Independence Day in the 1800s.

Expect a flag raising ceremony, live music at three locations, blacksmithing and weaving demonstrations, archaeology talks, a community quilt project, and a full lineup of competitive games including a watermelon eating contest, tug of war, sack races, and an egg race.
The kind of Fourth that’s equal parts educational and genuinely fun.
Take a Quick Road Trip to Julian for the Parade
Looking for those small-town Americana vibes this 4th of July? Look no further than Julian!
For more than twenty years, Julian residents, their friends, and parade lovers from all over have lined up at on the town’s main street to wave their flags, cheer the marching bands, salute the Marine Color Guard, and carry a giant American Flag down the thoroughfare at the Julian’s 4th of July parade.
See you there!
Happy 4th of July, San Diego. We’ll see you out there!
